ABOUT US
The Square Fish Café is a contemporary restaurant and bar set in the picturesque market village of Lenham, at the foot of the beautiful North Downs.
We are based right in the centre of the village square, in a sensitively-restored grade II listed building, which has been a key premises within the community for decades – serving variously as the old Market House; The Chequers Inn - a Shepherd Neame pub - from the early 19th century onwards, and a tea room and the local petrol station and mechanic in the 1930s.
After successfully running the landmark Chequers Fish Bar for over 17 years, we were keen to expand the business and felt that there was a demand in the village for a new relaxed, warm and welcoming dining destination. When the new premises recently became available, we jumped at the chance to move in, and The Square Fish Café was born!
We pride ourselves on offering a friendly haven in this idyllic part of Kent - serving fresh, modern dishes in a comfortable, informal atmosphere and look forward to welcoming you soon.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Our restaurant provides the perfect setting in which to enjoy a relaxed dining experience with family or friends. Modern, minimalist decor both preserves and highlights the features of this historic building in the beautiful Garden of England. An outdoor seating area looks out onto the medieval village square – the perfect spot for al fresco dining.
The menu offers the best in fresh local fish and seafood, with plenty of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians, a few Mediterranean twists inspired by owner Maz Michaelas’ Cypriot heritage. With a daily Specials board and a ‘Catch of the day’ showcasing the freshest bounty from the Kent coast, our focus is on quality ingredients where flavour is king.
Our well-stocked bar offers a wide range of wines, ales, lagers, ciders, spirits and cocktails, including many selections from local producers.
